A Little Hadrian's Wall History

Hadrian's Wall itself and the Hadrian's Wall Path are not quite the same length.

The Roman Wall was built using Roman measurements. A Roman mile, or mille passum, was 5,000 Roman feet, and the Wall was divided into 80 Roman miles, with milecastles positioned at intervals along its length.

In modern measurements, Hadrian's Wall is approximately 73 miles long. The Hadrian's Wall Path National Trail is 84 miles, extending beyond the surviving Wall to connect Bowness-on-Solway in the west with Wallsend in the east.
