Looking for a Shorter Holy Island Walking Holiday?

If you'd love to experience the final approach to Holy Island but don't want to walk the complete 62-mile St Cuthbert's Way, our new Holy Island & Pilgrims Way 5 Day - Self Guided holiday could be perfect.

Starting near Fenwick, you'll walk the final section of St Cuthbert's Way and, when tides and conditions allow, follow the historic Pilgrims Way across the sands to Holy Island.

You'll then spend two nights on Holy Island, giving you a full day to explore Lindisfarne before continuing along the Northumberland coast to Berwick-upon-Tweed.

With just 17.5 miles / 28 km of walking over two walking days, it's a lovely way to experience Holy Island on foot without committing to a full long-distance trail.

A Little St Cuthbert's Way History

St Cuthbert's Way is a 62-mile / 100 km long-distance trail linking two places closely associated with St Cuthbert.

The route begins in Melrose in the Scottish Borders, where Cuthbert began his religious life, before travelling through the Borders and crossing into England through the Cheviot Hills.

It then continues through the Northumberland countryside, passing St Cuthbert's Cave, before reaching the coast and finishing on Holy Island, or Lindisfarne, where Cuthbert later served as prior.

One of the most memorable parts of the journey comes right at the end. When tides and conditions allow, walkers can leave the road behind and follow the historic Pilgrims Way across the sands to Holy Island, a wonderfully fitting finale to the journey.
