The Cumbria Way

Walk the Cumbria Way at your own pace on a self-guided walking holiday. The Cumbria Way is a 74-mile picturesque walk linking the historic Cumbrian towns of Ulverston and Carlisle and was originally created by the local Ramblers Association in the 1970’s.

Ulverston to Langdale is mainly low-level running through valleys, pastured hillsides and woodland.

When leaving Langdale to Caldbeck the route runs over Stake Pass, Skiddaw and the highest point of the Cumbria Way, High Pike. This middle section provides some breathtaking high mountain walking.

The last section leaves the Cumbrian Fells with easier walking passing through woodlands and farmers’ fields, following the river Caldew into Carlisle.
